Start with the tradeoff you care about
Attack compares the base damage multiplier before permanent upgrades. HP gives the initial health pool. Speed affects positioning before weather, items and other modifiers. A lead in one column does not establish the best full build.
The stat leaders below are calculated only from the 29 selectable starters. This is not a ranking of all 966 playable Pokémon.
For a first run
Pick an initial move you can understand and keep one partner long enough to learn its range and timing. Permanent upgrades apply to the selected Pokémon, so repeatedly switching makes comparisons less consistent.
Use the starter table to find the exact initial move. Fire, Water and Grass starters are not interchangeable once type matchups and weather enter the run.
For damage, durability or movement
Use the three leader cards below as a shortlist for a controlled comparison, not as a verified damage dealer / tank / support tier list. Highest HP alone does not make a partner a tested co-op tank.
For a useful test, keep permanent upgrades and items equal, use the same mode, record the build, and repeat runs. Record survival time and damage separately rather than merging them into an unexplained score.
Should you chase a legendary?
Legendary encounters and rewards are described by the official guide, but the source does not establish an overall best partner for every build. This page does not recommend a specific legendary without move and run evidence.
