See the tier method and full tableWhat Grookey's stats tell you
Grookey is the generation 8 grass starter #810. Its 92 HP sits above Treecko's 88 and below Chespin's 95; its 1.06× attack matches Treecko and exceeds Chespin's 1.04×. Its 105 speed is two points behind Treecko.
These three values place Grookey in S tier under the site's equally weighted, normalized base-stat formula. That is not a tested win-rate ranking. In particular, the formula does not account for the close-range move with which Grookey begins.
Starting move: Vine Whip
Vine Whip is a grass melee move that strikes in a wide arc and knocks enemies back. Unlike a projectile or boomerang, its range is centered near the partner. Paying attention to approaching enemies is a practical inference from that behavior, not evidence that a close-range strategy has been tested here.
Vine Whip's move evolution is Power Whip in the pinned source. Max Vine Whip at level 5 and take an attack upgrade during the same run to make the gold evolution card eligible. It is a card candidate after the requirements are met; neither the offer nor the evolution is automatic.
Grookey compared with Treecko and Chespin
Treecko has 88 HP, 1.06× attack and 107 speed: identical attack, 4 less HP and 2 more speed. The other substantial difference is the starting move. Treecko's Razor Leaf travels out and back, whereas Grookey begins with a nearby melee arc. The stat score cannot express that difference.
Chespin has 95 HP, 1.04× attack and 94 speed, also starting with Vine Whip. Grookey exchanges 3 HP for 0.02 more attack multiplier and 11 more speed. Because the starting move matches, this comparison isolates the three recorded stat differences more directly.
Finding Grookey in the roster
Grookey is marked as a starter and assigned Vine Whip in the fixed roster. Look for it in starting-partner selection. These sources do not establish a Pokémon evolution level or route to Rillaboom; Power Whip above refers specifically to move evolution.
Common questions about Grookey
Is Vine Whip a melee move?
Yes. The pinned definition classifies it as melee, with a wide arc and knockback. It is different from Treecko's returning Razor Leaf.
Does Grookey's tier include its starting move?
No. The composite includes HP, attack and speed only, weighted equally. Move range, cooldowns and damage are excluded.
Why compare Grookey with Chespin?
Both start with Vine Whip. Grookey has 11 more speed and higher attack, while Chespin has 3 more HP, making the base-stat tradeoff clear without changing the starting move.
