Treecko is the generation 3 grass starter #252. Its 107 speed is the highest among grass starters in the 29-partner snapshot, and its 1.06× attack matches Grookey. The cost is HP: 88 is the lowest value among the six S-tier partners.
Treecko's S tier comes from the equal-weight composite of HP, attack and speed. Speed and attack contribute alongside its lower HP. The result is not a tested survival ranking, and it does not include the return path or hit behavior of Razor Leaf.
Starting move: Razor Leaf
Razor Leaf is a grass boomerang move. Its source description specifies two leaves traveling out and returning, cutting on both passes. That describes an opportunity to connect on the outward and return paths, not a guarantee that each enemy takes two hits.
The pinned move-evolution table pairs Razor Leaf with Leaf Storm. Max Razor Leaf at level 5 and take a cooldown upgrade during the same run to make its gold evolution card eligible. Taking only an attack upgrade does not meet this particular prerequisite, and maxing the move does not evolve it automatically.
Treecko compared with Grookey and Snivy
Grookey has 92 HP, 1.06× attack and 105 speed. Treecko gains 2 speed points and loses 4 HP at identical attack. Their starting moves also differ: Razor Leaf is a boomerang, while Grookey's Vine Whip is melee. A shared grass type and S tier do not make their attack patterns identical.
Snivy has 90 HP, 0.95× attack and 104 speed. Treecko has 2 less HP, 0.11 more attack multiplier and 3 more speed. This is a different comparison from Grookey: both attack and speed favor Treecko, whereas only speed differs in its favor against Grookey.
Finding Treecko in the roster
The fixed Pokédex marks Treecko as a starter, and the starter mapping assigns Razor Leaf. These sources support the starting configuration and the move-evolution path above. They do not establish a Pokémon evolution level or route to Sceptile in this game.
Common questions about Treecko
Why is Treecko in S tier with only 88 HP?
The composite gives speed and attack the same weight as HP. Treecko's 107 speed and 1.06× attack contribute enough to place its combined score in S; this is not a tested win-rate result.
Is Razor Leaf the same kind of move as Vine Whip?
No. Razor Leaf travels out and returns as a boomerang; Vine Whip is a close-range melee arc.
Which upgrade does Razor Leaf's move evolution need?
A cooldown upgrade taken during the current run, together with level 5 Razor Leaf, makes the Leaf Storm gold evolution card eligible. It is not an automatic evolution.
